Opposites Attract
So this entry idea came from an article in the Utah Valley Magazine November/December 2008 issue called "When Opposites Attract" and our Relief Society lesson on unity. Throughout our lives we will interact and form relationships with a lot of people. Some of those people might not have the same views as us. Even in the church we all have differences; "At first blush there are a lot of opposites, but if you peel away the layers and get down to the core values and interests, there's a lot more in common then meets the eye." (UVM) Apart from those differences we all have the same goal, and that it to return to Heavenly Father in the Celestial Kingdom and help as many of our brothers and sisters to get there as well. We need to learn to use everyones differences to achieve that goal. "We don't try to change each other...We respect and love what we are, not what we might want the other to be." (UVM) This is the mindset we need to pick up. We need to "love each other and respect each other, [and] trust that the other person's perspective isn't evil or misinformed." (UVM). By doing this we can form stronger bonds with one another.
Another thought with differences. Some might think they aren't compatible with another because they have all of these differences while "Sometimes we do have to take a step back and say, you know, that's not the way I would think about it, but before I throw up a wall or a barrier I'm willing to entertain that there are other perspectives to think about. That's one of the things that fascinating and endearing about the relationship - it never really becomes old. There's always something fresh and exciting." (UVM). If you really want to make something work "love each other and respect each other, [and] trust that the other person's perspective isn't evil or misinformed." (UVM)
Diversity is what brings us strength.
