Sunglasses

As a lifeguard of the City of Orem, part of my uniform when I work the outdoor pool is sunglasses.  My sunglasses are on their forth summer of guarding and it shows.  The screw are falling out and they sport dog chew marks on the side.  They have a classic black frame.  Now I've decided that while black may be the classic "I'm cool" look for sunglasses it lacks any flair or excitement.  Seeing as all of the lifeguards all wear the same basic uniform, sunglasses is the only area of uniform that we can be creative.  My black sunglasses say that I'm boring.  I need something that pops.  I decided on Thursday that white frames are actually pretty rocking when my head guard Josh was sitting on his guard chair looking confident and in control.  Anyway I figure that since I've mentioned him I'll link to him as well. Here's Josh → Click!  (Okay so that's not really Josh; it's just his blog.  I'm sorry to say that by clicking that link Josh will no...

Jamba Juice Flavor - Pink Star

So this week's flavor of wonder, by request, was "Pink Star" or "Pink Starburst."  This flavor tastes exactly like it's namesake.  As I sipped the frozen treat I almost expected to feel the chewy texture of starburst to accompany the flavor.  The sugar shock wasn't as bad as last time, but after an original size I still felt a little sick.  I'll probably stick with 16 oz from now on.  Anyway this is a great flavor if you want something a little fun, and much better than the Sour Patch Kid.

Fear of knowledge

Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" from The Republic Socrates: And now, I said, let me show in a figure how far our nature is enlightened or unenlightened: --Behold! human beings living in a underground cave, which has a mouth open towards the light and reaching all along the cave; here they have been from their childhood, and have their legs and necks chained so that they cannot move, and can only see before them, being prevented by the chains from turning round their heads. Above and behind them a fire is blazing at a distance, and between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way; and you will see, if you look, a low wall built along the way, like the screen which marionette players have in front of them, over which they show the puppets. Glaucon: I see. Socrates: And do you see, I said, men passing along the wall carrying all sorts of vessels, and statues and figures of animals made of wood and stone and various materials, which appear over the wall? Some of them a...

Tan Lines

Image
Ahh. Summer has finally arrived in bipolar Utah and with Summer come the inevitability of tan lines.  I don't really get people who obsess over having no tan lines.  I mean I can understand if they're as defined as those above, but otherwise it just shows that you do something other than lie naked in a skin cancer bed.  I love my tan lines.  Being a lifeguard they tend to be fairly noticeable.  My favorite guard tan line is my flip flop line.  Even with my shoes off it still looks like I've got thick flip flop straps across my feet.  I'm also a big fan of the whistle tan line across the back of my neck.  I don't know why, but it just makes me happy.  Another guard tan line that is Scera Pool specific and only applies to the female guards are the little half-moons found on the hips.  The approved swim suit for female guards is very high cut and come right to the base of the hip bone.  In addition to the high cut suit, females also have the option of wearing the short...

Jamba Juice Flavor - Sour Patch Kid

So I had always heard that Jamba Juice had a secret menu full of wondrous secretive secret flavors, and being a huge fan of the Jamba I have been itching to get my lips around a straw that could deliver one of those exclusive flavors to my taste buds.  I finally got around to googling (I love how that's an excepted verb now) "Jamba Juice secret menu"  I found a list filled with wonder and magic.  Like a child at Christmas I eagerly read through the menu.  I couldn't wait to try them all.  That was back in February.  I'll admit I put off starting my Jamba adventure, but finally on Monday I had my first taste of secrecy.  After a family game of miniature golf (which I totally won.  My mom wouldn't let me keep score because "someone's feelings would get hurt", so I kept them in my head. Ha!) my family and I headed out for a cool refreshing Jamba Juice.  As we drove towards the fruity haven I thought back to February and the list came to mind.  Final...
